Industry Insights and Career Guidance from Successful Bosses: A Career Talk for Postgraduate Students of the School of Translation and Foreign Languages

The School of Translation and Foreign Languages (STFL) of HSUHK, supported by Hong Kong Young Industrialists Council (HKYIC), hosted a career talk on 12 March 2024, which motivated and inspired the postgraduate students of the Master of Arts in Translation (Business and Legal) and Master of Arts in Translation (Computer-Aided Translation) programmes. The event, aptly titled ‘Meet-the-Bosses Session’, provided a unique opportunity for our students to engage with CEOs and industry leaders.

Bringing together esteemed speakers who have achieved remarkable success in their respective fields, the STFL sought to enlighten our students with valuable insights and guidance. The event commenced with a warm welcome to our distinguished guests from Professor Gilbert Fong, Dean of the School, and Dr Shelby Chan, Associate Dean of the School. The lineup of speakers included Mr Benedict Sin, Director and General Manager of Myer Jewellery Manufacturer Limited and Member of the Foundation Management Committee at HSUHK; Mr Eugene Chan, Managing Director of Man Yue Technology Holdings Limited and President of HKYIC; Mr Felix Choi, CEO of Hongrita Mold Limited and Executive Vice President of HKYIC; and Ms Glendy Choi, Executive Director and CEO of D&G Technology Holding Company Limited and Honorary Treasurer of HKYIC.

Attendees were divided into groups and given attention by the rotating speakers, which allowed direct conversations and meaningful interactions. They shared personal anecdotes and earned lessons, analysed industry trends and future prospect, and guided our students on their career development.

The ‘Meet-the-Bosses Session’ exemplifies the School’s provision of holistic education that extends beyond the classroom. By connecting students with industry leaders, the School will continue to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and networks necessary to thrive in their careers.
