International Poetry Nights in Hong Kong 2019 @HSUHK
International Poetry Nights in Hong Kong 2019 @HSUHK (IPNHK2019), presented by the School of Translation and the Hong Kong Poetry Festival Foundation, staged two seminars on 20 November 2019 at Jao Tsung-I Academy. Prof Gilbert Fong, Dean of School of Translation, and Dr Shelby Chan, Associate Dean of School of Translation, were the moderators of the seminars “Speech and Silence – The State of Resistance (1)” and “Cultural Translation in Speech and Silence” respectively.
We were delighted to have so many poets from all over the world such as China, Korea, Poland and Russia to participate in IPNHK2019. Many of these world-renowned poets have been working extensively in other fields — they are also scholars, translators, writers, etc. The poets shared their work and thoughts with poetry enthusiasts at the poetry recitation with bilingual or trilingual projections. They also joined multilingual discussions with English interpretation which covered such diverse topics as translation, philosophy and resistance.
