Introduction of School of Translation and Foreign Languages (STFL)
The School of Translation and Foreign Languages (STFL) at HSUHK offers innovative and future-facing programmes in translation, interpreting, languages and multilingual communication. With a strong focus on technology, professional practice and global engagement, we prepare students to meet the demands of an AI-driven, multilingual world.
Our curricula blend liberal education with industry relevance, and students benefit from hands-on learning, authentic projects and close mentoring. STFL's strengths in translation technology, business and legal translation, audiovisual translation, localisation and cross-cultural communication are complemented by a diverse offering in foreign languages and cultures that now includes a number of ASEAN languages.
Our faculty are all highly-rated teachers and include both accomplished researchers and seasoned practitioners. Our research spans translation studies, digital media and intercultural communication, and we are home to two research centres: the GILT Research Centre (Globalisation, Internationalisation, Localisation, and Translation) and the Research Centre for Translation of Buddhist Texts.
Through partnerships with universities, industry and international organisations, STFL maintains a strong regional and global profile. Our students gain international exposure and professional experience through overseas study, internships and active industry engagement. As a forward-looking School, we aim to equip graduates not only with professional expertise but also with the cultural insight and ethical awareness to make a meaningful impact in today's professional world.
