    This module introduces students to the roles of financial institutions and the functions of financial markets in a modern economy. Various kinds of financial markets are addressed with particular reference to the Hong Kong economy. In addition, discussions on the financial systems in the USA and the PRC will be provided to widen the horizons of students. Students will have a better understanding of the global financial world in which they are living.

    Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
    1. describe the general functions of the main financial institutions, instruments and markets;
    2. show where to obtain financial data;
    3. explain the role of interest rate in finance; and
    4. explain the basic structure and operations of the financial institutions and markets in Hong Kong, the U.S. and the PRC.
