單元概要
This module aims to enable students to conceptualise the strategic and supporting role of human resources management. Through various human resources functions and a comprehensive staffing process, organisations will be facilitated to enhance performance and achieve strategic goals. The module covers the major aspects of human resources management responsibility, namely, attracting, developing and maintaining a quality workforce, which involve activities such as recruitment and selection; talent management; performance appraisal; training and development; career planning; employee retention and motivation; employee health and safety, etc. Contemporary and dynamic issues in human resources management will also be covered.

Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
- describe the strategic and supporting role of human resources management;
- conduct job analyses and draw up human resources plans, formulate and design recruitment and selection programmes; develop mentally-oriented performance appraisal systems; training and development programmes, and competitive compensation schemes;
- assess level of motivation and job satisfaction of workforce; analyse human behaviour at work and deal with various human resources issues / problems and maintain harmonious employee relations; and
- identify and cope with contemporary issues in human resources management such as ethics, quality of work life, equal employment opportunities, IT applications and workforce diversity.
