Module Description
The module builds on the knowledge students have gained in studying TRA3001 Financial and Business News Translation 1. It crosses the disciplines of translation and journalism by going beyond general business news to explore wide-ranging texts for translation in business journalism, including both written and spoken texts from print, electronic and broadcast media and documentary films.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
  1. Understand the scope of inquiries in modern business & financial journalism, and the role of the translator as journalist-cum-editor (or trans-editor);
  2. Translate business news texts of a critical nature, including opinion pieces, columns, editorials and op-eds;
  3. Compare “soft news” with “hard news” in business, and translate human-interest and feature stories (i.e., soft news) from both print and broadcast media;
  4. Grasp the reporting style of investigative journalism, and translate extended pieces on specific issues from business news magazines and documentary film.
