Module Description
This is a module designed to teach students specific communication skills required for social interactions in a cosmopolitan city such as Hong Kong. “Good communicative behaviour” exhibited in bilingual texts is studied within the general framework of an Interpersonal Rhetoric model.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
  1. analyse and describe the communicative behaviour in English and Chinese texts;
  2. apply their knowledge of communicative behaviour to the accurate translation and interpreting of technical and business texts between English and Chinese; and
  3. evaluate and comment critically on translated technical and business texts using their knowledge of communicative behaviour.
