Module Description
The major objective of this module is to help students understand and apply key topics relating to business and management practices in mainland China. The course adopts a participant-centred learning approach by engaging students through case studies, class interactive discussions, group presentations and assignments, and individual essays. Moreover, students are expected to have a good master of concepts and theories concerning the relevant literature, and to improve their capabilities of making decisions in strategic issues about business and management practices in Greater China context.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
  1. identify unique characteristics of corporate environment in China in terms of traditional culture, the role of state, government, political institutions, and market conditions and their influences on business and management practices;
  2. examine business and management practices in different business organisations, including state owned enterprises, private entrepreneurial firms, family enterprises, and foreign invested corporations in mainland China; as well as large corporations in Hong Kong and Taiwan societies;
  3. describe development of business organisations in Greater China context in today’s globalisation of economy; and
  4. develop conceptual frameworks and capabilities of decision making concerning business and management practices in Greater China context.
