MGT3022 - Performance and Compensation Management

Prerequisites: BUS1002/MGT1002 Principles of Management or with the Instructor’s permission and upon endorsement of the relevant Chairperson and Programme Director.
Module Description
The main objective of this module is to equip students with the concepts and practice of performance appraisal as well as compensation and benefits. Students understand these issues and develop techniques of designing a practical performance management programme for the organisations. It also represents an opportunity for students to reflect and apply the ways of engaging and rewarding employees with good performance.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
  1. describe how strategic human resource objectives align and relate to managing organizational and employee performance as well as compensation policies and practice;
  2. design and implement effective performance management and performance appraisal systems, and devise actions or apply techniques to enhance and maximize performance levels;
  3. formulate and execute the total compensation strategy and apply the relevant principles in optimizing organizational and employee performance;
  4. conduct job analysis, job evaluation and pay survey for effective design and administration of pay system with an emphasis on performance-related features.
